Any person who finds out that I chose to have both a pug and a boxer for my pets typically has a smart comment to make. I’ve herad things like, “That’s a strange combination” and “Yeah, how does that work for you?” on more than one occasion. I just don’t get it. What is so strange about my pair of dogs? The are both male, so I usually refer to them both as my boys. So, while the majority of the world thinks my combination to be off, I’m going to fill you in on why my pug and my boxer happen to go together perfectly.
Pugs have the biggest personalities and they like to entertain. Anyone who has met a pug will know this to be true. While my pug is an entertainer, my boxer likes to be entertained. Boxers get easily bored. This is part of the reason that when left alone with nothing to do they like to trash the furniture, but I know that my boxer will also be highly entertained by my nutty pug.
Boxers tend to be pretty laid back dogs. They like to just be in the same room as you, watching your favorite tv show on your cable internet bundles, and your company is probably the most important thing to a boxer. Pugs, on the other hand, rule the roost, so to speak. My pug is the boss, and no matter how hard we try in this house, he still makes the rules. This works out overall though because while my pug is the leader, my boxer nonchalantly goes along with him. There are no clashes in my house or wars over who’s in charge. The boxer and the pug both know it’s the little pug who runs this household.
Lastly, it is what the two breeds have in common that really make them the best pair imaginable. Both a pug and a boxer are extremely loyal dogs. They love to be around people, especially their owners. Mine can’t get enough attention from anyone person. If you met either of them, you would think that they never any attention from me, when that is truly not the case. When people come into our home, both the pug and boxer get so excited they run in circles. That’s enough to make any guest feel warm and welcome. I could not have asked for more loving breeds of dogs. Both my boys are so loving and sweet.
Obviously a pug and a boxer off set each other perfectly. The things that need to be opposite for a good relationship to work, are, and they both share the best qualities you could ask for from a dog. So, if you happen to have two different breeds of dog that people tend to question, just remember that two breeds balance each other. And that usually works out well for all involved parties.

My boyfriend and I have a pug and a boxer too, and they really are the best pair of dogs ever! I love hearing about other pug and boxer owners. So sweet!
I have accumulated two chihuahuas and a great dane. People think my wife and I are nutty for this combo, but you would be surprised at how well the dogs all get along. If anything the biggest trouble comes from the two chihuahuas.
